Each of us can become chagrined by personal circumstances. Whatever your present challenges, this remarkable account will forever change your perspective!

Tiyo Satrio of West Java, Indonesia was born without arms and legs. Though 11 years old, he appears to be age 5. Despite his diminutive size, this brave boy is a champion over adversity. He propels his body by rolling. He even attends school! He writes in a side-lying position, holding a pen by mouth, forming numbers and letters with perfect precision.

Parents Mimi and Wawan have devoted their lives to Tiyo’s care. A full-time vocation, they’re unable to work. Although Tiyo has four grown siblings, they live in other regions of the country. Compounding the family’s financial stress, they no longer receive government assistance. Still, the support of Tiyo’s parents empowers him to thrive.

At the special needs facility Tiyo attends, teachers extol his intelligence. He excels in math and religious studies, working at an advanced level. Tiyo’s classmates adore him. It’s no wonder! With his cheerful demeanor, laughing comes easily, his giggle resembling music. The faculty is happy to help the family, bringing Tiyo to school by motorbike. When changing classes, teachers carry him between rooms. Students transport him by wheelchair through the school building.

Tiyo’s favorite pastime is playing video games, operating the controls with his shoulders and chin. Seeing his grin and determined eyes, you can’t help but smile at this resourceful child. He’s the pride of Penawangan village.

Tiyo, thank you for the way you inspire us! Disability hasn’t dampened your spirit, nor stopped you from making progress. You’re achieving what seems impossible! You show us that even when extremely disadvantaged, life can be fully enjoyed. Way to go, Tiyo!
