In a stunning moment on the Minnesota House floor, Democrat State Representative Kaohly Vang Her openly admitted that she and her entire family are in the United States illegally — all while lobbying for taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal immigrants.
The shocking confession came during a debate over a proposed modification to Minnesota legislation that would expand public health benefits to non-citizens. In her speech, Vang Her sought to “put a face” to the issue — but what she ended up putting on record was a startling admission that not only did her family break the law to enter the U.S., but that their illegal entry was intentional and deceptive.
“I am illegal in this country,” Vang Her declared, recounting a conversation she recently had with her father. She explained that while she once believed her family had come to America through legal refugee channels, she recently discovered the truth: her father — a former employee at the U.S. Consulate in Laos — deliberately falsified documents to get their family into the country.
“One of our uncles worked for USAID,” she explained. “My father was the one processing the paperwork, \[and he] put my grandmother down as his mother… my parents are illegal here in this country.”
Yes, you read that right. A sitting state lawmaker not only admitted that her family broke U.S. immigration law — she’s using it as justification to expand government handouts to those in the country illegally.
Rather than show remorse or gratitude to a nation that has offered her and her family opportunity despite the circumstances of their entry, Rep. Vang Her doubled down, painting herself as a victim and daring critics to “think about who it is that you’re calling illegal.”
“I’m telling you this story so that you think about who it is that you’re calling illegal,” she said defiantly. “We were just smarter in how we illegally came here.”
Let that sink in. “Smarter.” As if violating U.S. immigration law is something to be admired — or worse, rewarded.
This is the modern Democratic Party: not only refusing to enforce immigration law, but elevating lawbreakers to positions of power and using their stories as political leverage to dismantle what remains of our nation’s borders.
Vang Her even boasted that her family never “shopped around for welfare” — but now she wants Minnesota taxpayers to foot the bill for healthcare for other illegal immigrants. The irony is stunning.
And yet, there’s been no condemnation from Democrat leadership. No apology. No calls for investigation. Just business as usual in a party that has made clear it values identity politics and open borders over the rule of law.
Meanwhile, law-abiding Americans — including legal immigrants who followed the rules — are left to wonder: if laws don’t matter anymore, what does?
At the very least, Rep. Vang Her’s confession should raise serious questions about her eligibility to hold office and the integrity of Minnesota’s immigration oversight. But don’t expect Democrats to ask those questions anytime soon.
