Florida sent a loud and unmistakable message this week to the radical anti-ICE mob: lawlessness will not be tolerated in the Sunshine State. That reality came crashing down on a grinning protester in Jacksonville after she allegedly assaulted a Florida state trooper during an immigration enforcement operation—prompting Gov. Ron DeSantis to issue a blunt warning that Florida is “not Minneapolis.”

The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Jennifer Cruz, was arrested Tuesday morning outside Mi Pueblo, a Mexican grocery store and meat market, after she reportedly leapt out of her vehicle and punched a state trooper in the face. The trooper was assisting Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents as part of a lawful operation when the confrontation occurred.

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier didn’t mince words when announcing the arrest on X.

“Jennifer disagrees with immigration enforcement and decided to commit a few felonies by getting out of her car and punching a trooper in the face,” Uthmeier wrote. “But unlike Minnesota, we don’t put up with this nonsense. Not today, Jennifer.”

Video footage captured by Mi Pueblo owner Juan Alvarez shows officers quickly swarming Cruz, forcing her to the ground, and placing her in handcuffs as the situation spiraled out of control. According to Alvarez, ICE agents and a state trooper were already detaining a driver when Cruz inserted herself into the operation.

“They had an operation going on,” Alvarez explained. “After that, they detained another person, and it seems they got into an altercation. It turned violent, and that led to a lot more police and federal enforcement showing up.”

Additional video footage circulating online paints an even uglier picture. Cruz can be seen kicking, screaming, laughing, and taunting officers as they struggled to place her into a squad car. At one point, she mocked an officer as a “weak-ass motherf–ker,” clearly reveling in the chaos.

The situation escalated further when Cruz began violently kicking inside the cruiser. Footage shows her lying back before suddenly popping up and kicking an officer attempting to restrain her.

“Don’t you dare start kicking me!” one officer can be heard warning, just moments before Cruz was tased to regain control of the situation. Even then, her tantrum continued, with video showing her kicking the vehicle’s roof and the camera mounted inside the back seat.

Cruz was booked into Duval County Jail on a laundry list of charges, including multiple counts of battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence, and threatening harm to officers. Despite the seriousness of the offenses, she was released on bond and is scheduled to appear in court on February 4.

Governor Ron DeSantis addressed the arrest during a news conference in Jacksonville on Thursday, using the moment to draw a sharp contrast between Florida’s law-and-order approach and the chaos playing out in Democrat-run cities.

“This is not Minneapolis,” DeSantis said flatly. “This is not going to end well for you in Florida.”

The governor emphasized that while peaceful protest is protected, violence against law enforcement is not.

“You have a right to go out there and criticize government policy,” DeSantis said. “You can protest within respected zones. But the idea that you’re going to assault one of our troopers is unacceptable, and you are going to face consequences as a result of that.”

As radical activists across the country increasingly target ICE agents and police officers, Florida’s response stands in stark contrast to states where mobs are appeased and law enforcement is second-guessed. In DeSantis’ Florida, the message is simple: obey the law—or pay the price.
