The miracle of childbirth is something which leaves most people in awe, but few really comprehend the complexities of creating a new human being.

A recent video shows what is happening in the womb during those nine months while parents-to-be are decorating the nursery, attending baby showers, and otherwise preparing for their new arrival.

The video gives a keen perspective on what infants feel and think as they grow from two cells into a fully formed human being. The video begins by showing the sperm cell looking for an egg.

Just one sperm cell from thousands will fertilize the egg, which is then shown moving through the Fallopian tube where it will ultimately form an attachment to the uterus. At just four weeks, the egg becomes an embryo and at five weeks will register a heartbeat.

This entire delicate process is on full display in the short video. Scarcely larger than a jellybean, at ten weeks the embryo becomes a fetus. In the video, limbs and facial features begin to appear. At sixteen weeks, the baby can do many things such as hiccup, smile, yawn, and move around.

At twenty weeks, the video shows that the gender of the baby can be determined with an ultrasound, and at twenty-five weeks the little bundle of joy is wiggling its fingers and toes.

The thirtieth to the thirty-seventh week is a bustle of activity as bones begin to harden and the baby prepares for its grand entrance. Watching this video truly demonstrates the miracle of life in action.
