Cynthia Harris, who was most known for her role in the long standing television show Mad About You has passed away at the age of 87. She died in Greenwich Village, New York. The cause of death had not yet been released at the time of publication. She played Paul Reiser’s character’s mother, Sylvia Buchman, on the Mad About You sitcom, which also starred Oscar winning actress Helen Hunt.

Before her time on Mad About You she was a fixture on several 1970s television shows including The Bob Newhart Show, Three’s Company, and Laverne & Shirley. She also starred as Duchess of Windsor Wallis Simpson in the 1979 miniseries Edward & Mrs. Simpson.
But Cynthia will be most-remembered for her role on Mad About You. She was featured in 71 episodes of the hit show.
Harris graduated from Smith College and began her career in plays both on and off Broadway. Her first play was Natural Affection in 1963. She won a BAFTA Award for her role in Edward & Mrs Simpson.
Harris is survived by her partner, Nathan Silverstein, her brother Dr. Matthew Harris, her sister-in-law Maryjane Harris and several nieces and nephews.
The statement from the family says, “To offer your sympathy during this difficult time, you can now have memorial trees planted in a National Forest in memory of your loved one.”

The TV show Mad about You aired on CBS from 1992-1999. It starred comedian Paul Reiser and actress Helen Hunt. The show was about a married couple that had kids and dealt with their personal highs and lows as well as those of the daily life.
The show won Emmy awards for comedy series for its first two seasons. It also won Golden Globe Awards during those same time periods. Mad About You is also ranked as number 55 on the 100 Greatest TV Shows of All Time by Entertainment Weekly Magazine.
Harris played Paul Reiser’s mother, Sylvia Buchman, in 71 episodes of the hit sitcom and would often make appearances in guest roles on other shows after she had finished her part in Mad About You
Harris died on April 26, 2017 in her Greenwich Village home from natural causes. She was 87 years old.
