Thousands of individuals contributed money to the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020. These people wanted to demonstrate their support for American people of color following George Floyd’s murder and the dozens of demonstrations that took place throughout the United States.
New evidence, though, suggests that former leaders of the Black Lives Matter organization used millions of dollars in donations in 2020 to buy a mansion in Southern California with more than 6,500 square feet and twenty parking spots.
Despite the fact that the precise location of the property is unknown because it was acquired behind the Black Lives Matter limited liability company, New York Magazine was able to report that it features at least six bedrooms and bathrooms, numerous fireplaces, a pool, and a soundstage as well as all of the parking we mentioned earlier.
Patrisse Cullors, co-founder of the Black Lives Matter movement, faces criticism from conservative politicians and accusations that she misused funds collected from all across the country. Patrisse Cullors was also ridiculed for spending millions of money raised through donations on luxurious houses. Last May, Cullors stepped down as a member of the nonprofit organization.
An internal memo began circulating among BLM officials after NY Magazine contacted the organization for comment about the mansion purchase. “Can we kill the story?” and “Our angle – needs to be to deflate ownership of the property,” were some of the comments on the document.
The mansion was to be used as a staging area for the entire operation, according to the BLM memo, which stated how it would contribute to the greater organization.
“Campus is part of the cultural arm of the org – potentially as an ‘influencer house,’ where abolition+ based content is produced by artists & creatives.”
Another bullet in the same vein: “Accounting/990 modifications” shared in part the “Need to first make sure it’s legally okay to use as we plan to use it.”
The document also describes the Southern California mansion as a sort of “safe house” for Black Lives Matter leaders who had received death threats.

Cullors said, in the YouTube video, “For me, the hardest moments have been the right-wing-media machine just leveraging literally all its weight against me, against our movement, against BLM the organization. I’m some weeks out now from a lot of the noise, so I have more perspective, right? While I was in it, I was in survival mode.”
Meantime, Melina Abdullah, the co-director of BLM Grassroots, stated, “I think they’ve attempted to cancel us, but they have not been successful in canceling us.”
BML co-founder Alicia Garza added, “They’ve attempted to say – and I’m just gonna say it – ‘She bought some damn houses. We gonna cancel her.’ Y’all don’t know shit about what it takes to live in a box here.”
She also departed shortly after the video was released, claiming that she had been subjected to “constant right-wing assaults” on her safety.
