Phil Collins, rock star sensation and drummer, announced a few months ago that he was unable to play the drums. The singer informed fans upset over his bandmates’ plans to reunite for a Genesis tour during which his pals were arranging things. Now, Collins has performed at various locations all around the world but has been unable to stand on stage in Berlin, which has caused many people to be concerned about his health.

During the exciting event in Berlin, Collins teamed up with Rutherford and Banks. Although his vocal performance was great, fans couldn’t help but notice that his health was deteriorating. Throughout the show, Collins was unable to stand, so he remained seated and clasped the microphone to his chest as his life hung in the balance.

Fans who attended Genesis’ concert at the Mercedez Benz Arena were ecstatic to see Collins on stage, but they couldn’t help but think about how far he’s fallen since his prime.

Collins was a trending topic on Twitter after he was seen sitting during the show in Berlin. Some fans went as far as to compare Collins to his former bandmate Peter Gabriel, who had previously left Genesis.

Fans rushed to social media to defend Collins and claim that, despite his recent health problems, he does not appear too bad.

“I’m not a Genesis diehard, but if I had a choice between Genesis as fronted by Peter Gabriel and the band with Phil Collins as lead singer, I’m definitely going with Phil Collins,” one Twitter user said.

“Phil Collins is trending because he’s still around for us to tell him we love him,” another person tweeted.

Optimistically, one fan wrote: “I saw him back in 2019 as just Phil Collins, then a few weeks ago during the Genesis tour. He looked exactly the same. Trust me, he’s fine, despite the vertebrae issue.”

On July 16, 2007, Collins suffered a spinal injury that has negatively impacted his health since then. Because of the damage, he has on occasion been seen in a wheelchair and declared in September 2021 that he could no longer play drums as well as he once did. During an interview on BBC Breakfast (September 19), Collins revealed that his son Nick would be assuming the drums for Genesis’ next tour in 2021-22.

The hosts of the talk show asked Collins if he still bangs on the drums to beat the sheepskin. He responded:

“No. I’d love to, but you know, I mean, I can barely hold a stick with this hand… There are certain physical things that get in the way.”

Collins cannot play drums as well as he would wish, but he is pleased to be able to give Genesis one more go. This will be their final tour, and he’s glad to be a part of it.

“Yes, well, you know, you say things. I mean, we’re all men of our age, and I think to some extent yeah, I think it probably is putting it to bed,” the singer said. “I think, yeah, just generally for me, I don’t know if I want to go out on the road anymore.”
