There are several math problems that you have probably seen online, especially on Facebook, that don’t seem to have an answer.

Some of them stump even the smartest people who enjoy math.

Randall Jones has developed an equation that has seemed to puzzle millions of people on social media.

The equation starts simple enough with 1 + 4 = 5. This is the right answer and seems to be straightforward. However, on the second line of the problem, you see 2 + 5 = 12.

This is not the right answer to the equation or so one thinks until looking farther into the problem.

If you really think about the numbers and the answers to the previous problems, then you can figure out how to solve the equation.

The key is in the answer to the previous problem. When you see the 5, you need to look at the next line to get the answer of 12.

There are only one in a thousand who seem to be able to solve the equation.

Some people think the final answer is 40 while others think that it’s 96.

You can use addition or multiplication in order to reach the answers depending on how you view the problem.
