It’s perfectly healthy to talk about our religion. Nobody should be allowed to prevent us from doing so. That is why, rather than obeying the request not to speak or sing about Jesus before the gathering, Vince Gill did it anyhow.
Vince Gill is one of the most well-known and successful country music songwriters. His songs “When I Call Your Name,” “Whenever You Come Around,” and “Don’t Let Our Love Start Slipping Away” are proof that many people are more than glad to hear his voice when he performs on stage. It doesn’t matter which song he’s performing.
Vince Gill, upon hearing such instructions from other artists, decided to return with the most amazing Christian performance possible, and he didn’t hesitate for a moment. He is a devout Christian who nearly refused to sing a song on Grand Ole Opry’s stage alongside Little Big Town because it was about God.
It’s such an important moment when a new country music artist is inducted into the Grand Ole Opry. Even now, it remains one of the most memorable moments in country music. The event features big names in the industry, including Patsy Cline, Kitty Wells, Hank Williams, Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley, Dixie Chicks, Dolly Parton, Garth Brooks, Reba McEntire, and Alan Jackson.
That is why this event was so unusual and will undoubtedly be remembered.
Gill was advised not to talk about Jesus or sing about him before the event.
It was one of those unforgettable evenings when the Little Big Town group was inducted. Vince Gill joining the group on stage was, as expected, a major moment. What made it so memorable was when the band performed their version of one of country music’s most renowned renditions of “Why Me Lord.”
Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Jimi Westbrook, and Phillip Sweet were the only two guitarists in the band. Within seconds of stepping on stage, they overwhelmed the stadium with their loud singing. And having Gill on that performance was like putting icing on the cake.
The song begins with the group singing the touching words. Gill was standing in the background, softly humming as the voices blended together.
The crowd enthusiastically sang the following words:
“What have I ever done to deserve.
Even one of the pleasures I’ve known?
Tell me, Lord.
What did I ever do to deserve loving You?
And the kindness
You’ve shown?
So help me, Jesus, my soul’s in Your hand.
Jesus, my soul’s in Your hand.”
Despite the fact that Little Big Town has a majority of the stage, Gill’s powerful voice may still be heard in the background. That was a tremendous occasion. And when the song came to an end, you couldn’t help but wildly applaud!
Kris Kristofferson, an all-star country legend, wrote and recorded the song “Why Me Lord” in 1972. The song was written after Kris attended a church service during low periods in his life. He transformed the lyrics into an inspiration for fans of all types of music.
The Clash’s legendary song “Clocks,” which means “time” in Turkish, has been covered by numerous other artists, including Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, and King Elvis Presley.
