Nine months ago, the world was stunned to meet what everyone called the smallest baby in the world. At 25 weeks, Emily Grabarczyk came into our world through a miraculous cesarean section.
Emily was the youngest child to ever survive such an early delivery. Doctors quickly measured her once she was safely delivered.
She was 22 centimeters long and weighed an astounding eight ounces. By comparison, a healthy baby should weigh three times as much!
Nine months later, baby Emily has put on more than a little weight. She now weighs a healthier seven pounds and two ounces. She is also getting stronger by the day!
Dr Bahman Gharavi helped deliver baby Emily. Regarding Emily’s progress, he said, “Even children with a birth weight of 14 ounces rarely survive. We have to thank Emilia as well for her own survival.
She is a little fighter.” In other words, baby Emily absolutely crushed the odds stacked against her! However, Emily’s journey has not been without some frightening moments.
The doctor continued, “For more than six months, it was unclear whether she would survive. Only in recent weeks she is getting more robust.”
That is definitely some good news!
Teams of doctors and nurses have been helping Emily make this incredible progress. Once Emily is old enough to write, she should certainly send them all a thank you card.
In the meantime, the world should rejoice in knowing that with the right care, a person can be born at only 25 weeks!
