One of the most revered funny men and actors of the last 50 years has been the comedic styling of the beloved Tim Conway. He has provided side splitting comedy since before his long run on the Carol Burnett Show followed by his own, The Tim Conway Show. He has appeared on many talk and variety shows where he was giving some of his best performances in slap stick as well as traditional comedy. Besides giving fans something to laugh about, he was also a director, and a writer. Tim Conway was experiencing declining health for a number of years, but recently his family has made an announcement that has left his millions of fans heartbroken.
Conway’s daughter, Kelly, has received court documents in wake of her father’s illness stating that she will be the sole conservator of her father. She did this because she felt that his wife showed no interest in caring for him. The rest of the family also received the court documents so that they knew what to expect as far as managing his care was concerned. Conway is currently in a nursing facility that provides skilled health care for him. Kelly states that his wife, Charlene, is planning to remove him from this facility to one where he will not receive the same level of care. He now has a caregiver with him 24 hours a day, and a speech therapist to help him swallow his food.
Tim Conway was suffering from Dementia, a debilitating cognitive disorder that only worsens over time. This disease progresses in stages, and makes the patients incapable of thinking cognitively, remembering, and it also affects the motor skills. Conway did not have the capability of caring for his personal needs, or clothing himself, and he has become unresponsive. In his later years of performing, he was on such shows as Glee, 30 Rock, Married…With Children, Mike and Molly, Mad About You, Two and a Half Men, and Sponge Bob Square Pants, still continuing to provide laughter.
Conway was able to make the decision to stop performing on his own as the disease progressed. The late Dementia stage which is Stage 7 of the disorder, leaves the patient unable to speak and communicate. The fans of Tim Conway were greatly saddened by the family revealing this medical update. Although he has been away from the center stage for a number of years, the fans were not expecting such heartbreaking news as the Dementia update. This stage of Dementia can last for as long as two and a half years.
Tim Conway has five sons, Tim Jr, Pat, Corey, Jaime, and Shown; and two daughter, Kelly, and Jackie, who will all resolve themselves to ensuring that he has the best care that can be provided. His loyal fans will definitely miss the hilarious comedy that Tim is famous for. Many of the shows on which he did his best comedic performances are in syndication, and are aired on various cable television channels to still bring laughter to millions. He is just as funny in reruns as he was during the show’s popularity with a brand of comedy that was only Tim Conway.
Conway passed away on May 14th 2019.
