Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is once again making headlines — not for cleaning up her city, not for fighting crime, and certainly not for helping the law-abiding taxpayers who foot the bill for her failed policies — but for offering cash assistance to illegal immigrants in the wake of renewed immigration enforcement under the Trump Administration.

In an executive directive issued on July 11, Bass ordered city agencies to ramp up aid to so-called “immigrant communities” — a thinly veiled euphemism for illegal aliens — after what she decried as “six weeks of raids” by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Instead of applauding efforts to arrest violent criminals and dismantle human trafficking rings, Bass chose to subsidize lawbreakers with taxpayer dollars.

“We are a proud city of immigrants,” Bass said, leaning into the standard Democrat talking point conflating legal immigration with illegal entry. “With the Trump Administration signaling that they will ratchet up their chaotic approach, I’m making sure we deploy every resource and tool available within the City to support immigrant communities.”

Translation? She’s weaponizing taxpayer-funded city resources to undermine federal law enforcement — and protect those here illegally.

But she didn’t stop there. Bass also announced the formation of a new “working group” that includes the Los Angeles Police Department, the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs, and far-left immigrant rights organizations. Their mission? Not to aid ICE or combat criminal networks — but to write new policies to “guide” LAPD responses to immigration enforcement.

In other words, Bass is instructing city law enforcement on how to obstruct federal immigration officers.

Unsurprisingly, the Trump Administration is having none of it.

“You’re telling me that isn’t a Babylon Bee headline?” a White House spokesperson told Fox News Digital. “Recent immigration enforcement in California has resulted in successfully detaining countless violent criminals and liberating children from illegal labor exploitation. But instead of helping these children or putting American citizens first, Bass is doubling down on her defense of illegal aliens.”

It’s no secret that Los Angeles has become a sanctuary city under radical left-wing leadership, but Bass’s latest move is perhaps her most brazen yet: offering cash payments to people who broke the law to enter this country — while Angelinos grapple with rising homelessness, crumbling infrastructure, and rampant crime.

“Americans are sick of these pathetic stunts from Democrat politicians,” the White House spokesperson added. “That’s why they elected President Trump. They want someone who will put America First, and it’s certainly not Karen, Gavin & Co.”

Even U.S. Border Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino pushed back on Bass’s antics.

“I don’t work for Karen Bass,” Bovino said flatly. “Better get used to us now because this is going to be normal very soon. We will go anywhere, anytime we want in Los Angeles.”

After violent, far-left anti-ICE riots erupted in downtown L.A. in June — including the vandalism of federal buildings — one would think the mayor would side with law and order. Instead, she’s rewarding chaos.

Mayor Bass may believe she’s scoring political points with her base, but the rest of the country is watching in disbelief. While President Trump focuses on securing the border and defending American families, Karen Bass is busy handing out taxpayer-funded checks to those who broke the law to get here.

It’s not “compassion.” It’s treasonous governance wrapped in progressive slogans — and Americans are tired of it.
