Love her or hate her, most everyone can agree that Zsa Zsa Gabor epitomized a revolutionary kind of femininity. Instead of being objectified, men became her objects.

Or perhaps men merely delivered the objects she desired, as some of her remarks suggest; like her famous one-liner, “I am a marvelous housekeeper; every time I leave a man, I keep his house.”

Or how about, “I want a man who is kind and understanding. Is that too much to ask for a millionaire?” And one of her most famous lines contains references to her two favorite objects, both men and diamonds: “I never hated a man enough to give him his diamonds back.” Of course, Gabor also chided women.

As a sex symbol, many women wanted to be like her but others were intimidated or jealous. This didn’t escape notice. Gabor said, “I love to put on diamonds and beautiful evening gowns and make my girlfriends upset.”

She has also given advice, unsolicited but that doesn’t make it any less pertinent: “Husbands are like fires – they go out when left unattended.”

You may love her if you are a man, or hate her if you are a women but many admire her for being a unique fixture of Hollywood’s glamour.

Of all her quotations the one I will always remember her for is the one at which she seemed to be the most honest, and most charming: “I don’t remember anyone’s name. How do you think the ‘dahling’ thing got started?”

Here we honor the late Zsa Zsa Gabor with 11 of her wittiest quotes.
