Scammers must constantly find new ways of tricking honest and generous people into giving up something of value.

With just as many lies floating around as truths, it is hard to know who to trust (assuming anyone can be trusted). Con artists possess generally cunning qualities and have well-developed stories and scenarios.

Often, the victims of these scams lose money or possessions, but there are instances where victims are physically threatened or harmed. In Newport, North Carolina, two men planned a carjacking by luring a woman into stopping her car to help a child in danger.

The two men put a fake child (dummy) in the middle of the road and waited for the unsuspecting good Samaritan. The woman realized their bad intentions and sped away after they tried to get inside of her vehicle.

She later informed police of the occurrence; although they located (and destroyed) the dummy, the authorities are still looking for the suspects.

Incidentally, the two men from North Carolina aren’t the only ones trying to hijack cars in this way, but not everyone uses a dummy in children’s clothes. Scams are so various and so plentiful that it’s hard to know what to believe.

Perhaps the saddest part is that the dummy in the road could have been a real child, but since people are becoming more aware of this world of crime, few believe in these impressions for fear of becoming the true victims.
