Being a model is not an easy job. Just ask Megan (@meganmayw on Instagram)! Her daily routine is incredibly intense and oftentimes takes several hours to complete. This, coupled with travelling, makes her an incredibly busy woman. Despite this, she recently shared her entire workout routine that she uses to stay in shape for the runway. While her routine can sometimes vary depending on work and travel, Megan often completes four workouts in a day. These can be cardio workouts, strength workouts or something else entirely.
To begin her workout routine, Megan starts with some conditioning work. Using battle ropes, she does several intervals, with a different pattern each time. Battle ropes are heavy, and the constant motion helps work up a sweat. Short intervals and bursts of activity are great for toning up and keeping off fat. Following this, she will do some resistance training. According to Megans trainer, this varies daily. Usually, it will include a heavy squat, which will help keep her legs tight. Directly after is the Bulgarian split squat. This alternating move works each leg individually and helps train balance. To stretch out the legs after these two tougher movements, Megan will do sideways sliding lunges. These still build strength and muscle, but they are also a great way to open the hips and hamstrings. For Megan, this is only the first workout of the day! After this primary workout, she will do a cryotherapy session. Many models swear by cryotherapy, although the results from it are not clinically proven. After the cryotherapy session, Megan will continue exercising. Crazy! Usually, Megans trainer will have her work her core, which is critical. t models need to keep their lean physiques, as well as their toned midsections. Splitting the workout into two in this section allows her to get more work done, especially with the cooldown in the middle.
Following this gym workout, Megan will often head to a restorative class. Usually, this is meditation or yoga. These classes help her stay healthy and calm but put less stress on the body than other forms of exercise. Since Megan is an Instagram influencer, she often finds herself doing crazy forms of exercise to showcase on her social media accounts. Most recently she has done gymnastics and trapeze work. While scary, she finds these experiences rewarding and fulfilling. In the afternoon, it is time for more conditioning work. Cardio is a great way to burn calories and it is crucial for most runway models. Instead of long slogs of the treadmill, Megans trainer puts her through several circuits. These are more fun and can be an effective way to burn body fat.
In her circuits, she will often jump rope, do agility drills, battle ropes, hurdles and other bodyweight movements. Not only are these circuits more fun than a treadmill, they also allow Megan to complete the same amount of cardio work in less time. This is great because she is an incredibly busy woman. After the conditioning session, she will often work on movements that she wants to improve at. Currently, she has been working on a strict pull-up. Megan hasnt quite gotten it yet, although she is working on getting better every day. By training similar movements, she can develop stronger pulling muscles, which will help her pull-up improve.
