An American man wrapped himself in fireworks as part of an ill-advised publicity stunt for internet audiences.

The man, who was portly in nature, took several loops of the popular fireworks known as “Black Cats” and wrapped them multiple times around his torso.

After requesting a friend to film the stunt, he then lit the fuse. The man was extraordinarily lucky to live through such a experiment. It was only the extremely mild and weak nature of than particular type of firework that allowed him to survive with only serious burns and life-long scarring.

As it was the man was left with a figure-8 shaped line of serious burns running twice entirely around his torso.

Beyond the first, second and third degree burns that he inflicted upon himself, the possibility for secondary infection are enormous. What is more, the gunpowder from the firecrackers will be permanently embedded in his skin and the burned area will remain burned in appearance for life.

Particular disfiguration will be visible on the areas where the man used adhesive tape to attach the firecrackers to himself.

Due to the extremely fickle nature of explosives, even small explosives, the fractional adherence provided by the tape will lead to much greater surface trauma, a wider extent of damage, secondary pressure reflection effects and powder ricochets that bury themselves even deeper in the skin.

There was no indication on the video of what harm the experiment had done to his hearing, but it can safely be assumed that such combination of overpressure trauma from the outside and serious bone vibration on the inside does not add up to a positive experience for the ear canal.
