Many women who have a baby might think that they can get back to their normal lives a few months or even a few weeks after having a baby.

While they might feel normal, a new study reveals that it takes about a year for the body to completely recuperate from childbirth. Most doctors give the okay to go about normal activities after six weeks.

Dr. Julie Wray works at Salford University. She talked to women a few weeks after giving birth and those several months out after giving birth. Many of the mothers believed that six weeks is a fantasy timeline.

Most mothers have an examination at six weeks, and when the mothers went to the doctor, they were a little disappointed. Some of the women didn’t have a physical while others simply talked to the doctor about changes that they had noticed.

Dr. Wray also discovered that many women are negatively impacted by staying in a maternity ward. Years ago, hospitals would let women stay for a few days so that they could learn how to care for they baby.

Now, many mothers are sent home after a day or two.

There is little funding to help women recover from childbirth after six weeks, but in order for women to feel normal, they need that time to spend with the baby and to recover.
