As far as modern-day treasure stories go, it doesn’t get any better than an old house. Playing a pivotal role in many stories for the past few years, older homes seem to possess an entire realm of mystery that belongs to them.

This story is no exception. It all starts with a couple that purchased a fixer-upper home. Methodically, they began working their way through the home, making each room look better.

It wasn’t until they reached the kitchen, however, that things began to get really interesting.

After tearing up the floor in their kitchen, they discovered a safe underneath!

Appearing somewhat old—with excellent construction—the safe was wildly fascinating.

The couple put two and two together, realizing that the combination they’d found in their bathroom’s medicine cabinet was to this safe.

With baited breath, they attempted to unlock the safe—and finally succeeded after a few tries.

The safe did not disappoint.

Inside, there was an old bottle of aged whiskey, in addition to a book that featured a picture of actor Gregory Peck—and a whopping $51,080 in cash.

As far as treasures go, this one was a real score. Next time you go shopping for homes, don’t forget to take a look at the older houses! You never can tell what’s inside.
