We may never be able to see Big Mouth Bill Bass figures the same way again.

That’s because one developer, named Brian Kane, has figured out how to synchronize his Amazon Alexa into the singing electronic fish. Kane recently posted a video asking Alexa what the weather was like, and the fish responded with Alexa’s voice.

The bass actually moved his lips in sync with Alexa’s response about the weather in Cambridge. This video was posted on Facebook and it currently has almost 900,000 views.

Nobody is quite sure how Kane did this, but most people assume he used the Alexa API. The Alexa API was released in April and it helps developers embed Alexa’s code into third-party hardware.

Kane, who is a developer by trade, probably was able to use this new technology to hack into Alexa’s system and transfer the data to the fish. Developers who watched this video said it might be impossible to get Apple’s voice-recognition system Siri to do the same thing.

At best, people trying to work with Siri might only get a Big Mouth Billy Bass iOS app. For those who don’t know, Big Mouth Billy Bass is a famous American singing fish.

This bass is usually mounted on a board and will sing when you press the central button. Some songs Billy Bass is best known for include “Don’t Worry Be Happy” and “Take Me To The River.” Most of these toys are sold in Wal-Mart.
