Safyre Terry lost her sister, two brothers and parents in a fire two years ago. Although she survived, she had burns that covered 75 percent of her body. The reason the little girl survived was because her father used his body as a shield to cover her. Safyre is now being cared for by an aunt.
Safyre’s recovery was difficult. She had over 50 operations. She also lost her right hand and left foot. She will need to have another operation in January 2016. Safyre’s life has been difficult, but it is getting better. Her community has worked together to try to give her as normal of a life as possible. Safyre only wanted Christmas cards for Christmas this year. She even has a Christmas tree that holds cards.
Safyre told her aunt that she wanted to fill the Christmas tree up with cards. Her aunt did not think it was possible. Safyre’s aunt thought that she would only get 10 cards for Christmas. However, she wanted to do everything she could to make her niece’s Christmas wish come true. Liz Dolder, who is Safyre’s aunt, started a Facebook campaign. She encouraged people to send her niece Christmas cards. Safyre ended up getting Christmas cards from people all over the world. She could not be happier.
