Function keys. You know, the “F” keys on the keyboard. You’ve seen them, but do you use them?

The F1 key opens the help screen for most programs. Use the F2 key to rename a file or a folder. F3 will open a search feature for an open program. Press F4 + Alt to close the open window.

Use F5 to refresh the page or the document window. With most internet browsers, the F6 key moves the cursor to the address bar. When you are using Microsoft Word (and other Microsoft programs), use F7 to check spelling and Grammar.

When you turn on the computer, F8 opens the Windows boot menu. In Word, F9 refreshes documents. It also sends and receives emails in Microsoft Outlook. F10 opens the menu bar for an open application.

F10 + Shift is the same as a right-click. F11 works with web browsers to enter and exit full-screen mode.

In Word, F12 opens the Save As option.
