Most prescription and over-the-counter drugs come with side effects.

If you were to read over the labels, then you will likely see a number of side effects listed. Doctors have been trying to determine what can cause dementia for many years. The disease is more common now.

A longer lifespan is partly to blame for this. Doctors have also found that over-the-counter drugs that people take every day can cause dementia. Anticholinergic drugs can increase the risk of dementia. Demerol, Benadryl and Paxil are some of the medications that can be placed in this category. Doctors found out several years ago that these medications can cause short-term memory loss.

A recent study has shown that these drugs can potentially cause dementia. The study involved 451 adults. The researchers found that 60 of the adults took anticholinergic drugs on a regular basis.

They also found that these people had smaller brains than the rest of the subjects. They also performed worse on cognitive tests. The results of the study show that there is definitely a link between Dementia and memory loss.

However, more research needs to be done to determine exactly why these drugs cause memory loss. Doctors and researchers recommend that people look over the label before they take their medication.
