A wild snake in Ballwin, Missouri had to undergo surgery after swallowing a doorknob.

The snake was placed in a family’s chicken coup in order to catch rodents. They had placed a doorknob on the ground. The doorknob was a dummy egg in order to encourage the chickens to lay eggs.

They were shocked when the snake had a large bump in its stomach.
They took the snake to the veterinarian. The vet discovered that the snake had swallowed a doorknob.

The snake immediately underwent surgery and spent several weeks recovering. It also has a large wound. The snake now has the nickname “Doorknob.” It has recovered and has been released.

It continues to catch rodents. The family stated that the snake is well-mannered and a great pet. Kim Rutledge works at at the Wildlife Rescue Center. She was one of the people who treated the snake.

She stated that she usually does not name wildlife rescues. However, everyone at the Wildlife Rescue Center decided to name him “Doorknob”.

It is a miracle that the snake survived. The door knob was half-way down the snake’s body. If the snake did not get emergency surgery, then he would have died shortly after swallowing the doorknob.
