If you build it, they will come. That was most definitely the case with a group of ambitious Delaware students who have built the world’s tallest Lego tower. Towering over 112 feet tall and contains over 500,000 bricks, this Lego tower was sure to turn some heads.

The students from Wilmington, Delaware spent months working on this project. District Superintendent Daugherty completed the tower with the help of a crane. The students are pleased with their place in the Guinness World Record Book, breaking the previous record owner by Prague in the Czech Republic, whose Lego tower stood at 106 feet.

These kids gave up their summer break to follow a dream of building the tallest Lego tower and make history while doing so. Hundreds of members of the community gathered around on Monday night to witness the finished product and were awestruck at what they saw.

How did this all start? The structure for this monstrous tower was based on student ideas, but local architects and engineers donated their time to help build this structure more securely.

The students wanted this Lego Tower to look similar to the Eiffel Tower in Paris with a wide base that narrows as it gets taller. Students, along with friends and family members, attended what they called “Build Days” to help build this one-of-a-kind Lego Tower and make it come to life. What is great about this Lego Tower is that the thirty-two schools in this district are represented in this tower.

Different sections of the tower include school names and mascots while other sections represent names of those who helped donate money to pay for the Lego bricks.

This project really brought the entire community together as one and because of that togetherness and that sense of community, it was completed. Everyone played a hand in making this a reality and it was fine tuned like a well-oiled machine.

The students have learned a great deal from it and will use those life experiences of team work, hard work, and community as they go further along in life. However, they will always have a place in the record books because of this and they will always remember what their commitment accomplished. That is until someone else tries to top this and make their way into the record books. Although, as of now and maybe forever, this record stands above all.
