Leaving their children in someone else’s hands can be difficult for many parents, but finding out that a babysitter is abusing your child is even more heartbreaking.

Most of the time, when parents discover their nanny or babysitter was abusing their child, they can provide evidence or proof of the incident.

But, one couple is extremely upset about the way that police in Oregon handled their abuse case. After deciding to go out for the night without their baby, the couple came home to find their one-year-old beat and bruised. The young boy reportedly had welts on his face and head.

The parents immediately called the police and officers and social workers visited the scene to conduct an investigation. But, much to the parent’s surprise, all of the evidence collected, including photographs, reports, and other evidence, was not admissible in court.

This allowed the person who abused their baby to walk free. According to Oregon state laws, physical abuse can be dismissed in court. The rule states that the victim, the baby in this case, would need to be able to identify the abuser and make a verbal statement.

But the family isn’t giving up. They have been sharing their story on Facebook in order to gain followers and support. In a recent post, the parents recounted the situation and it didn’t take long for their story to go viral.

It’s even been picked up by national news stations, and as a result, the District Attorney has made a promise to look into the incident more thoroughly.
