A British Columbia couple that has been married for 62 years was finally reunited in the same care home after an eight-month separation.

Wolfram Gottschalk and his wife, Anita, were placed in different homes by the system due to differing medical needs. The family is overjoyed that the couple will be able to spend their remaining lives together.

The couple’s granddaughter became concerned about their situation when Wolfram, who has dementia, was diagnosed with cancer, and she feared that what little time he had left would have to be spent away from his wife.

She managed to get Wolfram placed on a waiting list for Anita’s care home, but the family heard nothing from the Yale Road Home where he was currently living.

Frustrated by the delays and lack of communication, the granddaughter contacted Global News and got the story out on social media, where it quickly went viral.

On September 22, Wolfram and Anita were reunited at The Residence at Morgan Heights, where Anita had been living. The couple shed many tears as they clasped hands, overjoyed at being together once again.

The family has pledged to reunite other senior couples who have been forced to live apart by the system.
