Add Melissa Adamson to the long list of people who have destroyed their lives over a stupid social media post.

It was her first day working as an officer in McKeesport, Pennsylvania and Adamson decided to post the Snapchat pic of herself in uniform—with the caption “I’m the law today n–gga.”With all of the discussion surrounding race relations and the police lately, this was a very unwise move.

It wasn’t long before Adamson was dismissed by her new job and then resigned from her post as a part-time cop in Versailles. Although it is now known how Adamson’s superiors became aware of her post, it’s safe to say that when people make racist posts nowadays, they’re bound to be discovered.

Even in the short cycle of a Snapchat post, Adamson’s insensitive remarks sent shockwaves. She’d sent the snap to a number of friends, one of whom was a fellow cop with whom she was quarreling at one point.

It is her belief that this friend then posted the message to Facebook, making it public for all to see. Even those who believe that they can get away with such posts should take Adamson’s situation as a warning—there will be no tolerance for such messages in today’s society.
