Do you want to read information capable of depriving you of a good night’s sleep the next time you spend a night at a hotel? A guest at a popular luxury chain recently endured a disgusting experience.

When he prepared to retire for the night, he noticed a crumpling sound as he settled into bed. Disturbed, the man searched through the bedding and located a piece of paper underneath the sheet.

The room’s previous occupant had penned a cautionary note. It warned him that his discovery meant the hotel’s maid service had failed to change the bed linens!

People with experience working in the hospitality industry recently divulged some rather dirty trade secrets (pun intended!).

Probably knowing this information will not enhance the comfort level of most hotel patrons. Apparently, even very upscale establishments sometimes fail to require the housekeeping staff to adhere strictly to basic sanitation guidelines.

Heard something crinkle when I settled in for the night…

Three aspects of this situation pose particular hygiene concerns.

First, experts warn that the bedbug problem which generated so much publicity in the past actually proves far more pervasive than most people realize.

They urge guests to make a practice of scanning their room for bed bugs whenever they stay in a hotel. Mattresses, luggage racks and even end tables may harbor these pesky insects. Second, the pipes in hotel spas usually receive infrequent cleaning.

They may contain microbial colonies.

Finally, patrons should probably reconsider using courtesy ice buckets! Reportedly, housekeepers sometimes simply wash out vomit from these containers and re-use them.
