Allan Law is a well-known figure around the Minneapolis area. Each night, Law hits the streets in his minivan emblazoned with the words “Love One Another” on a mission to help those who are less fortunate.

Law routinely sleeps only 4 hours a night and has given up most of his personal possessions to make room in his apartment for 17 freezers of food and assorted other supplies, which he hands out to those in need.

Law views his lack of sleep and personal possessions as a small price to pay to help others. “Someone has to care,” says Law. Last year alone, Law distributed 520,000 sandwiches and thousands of socks, gloves, and blankets to the homeless of Minneapolis.

He hits the streets around 8:00 p.m. each night and returns to his tiny apartment around noon the next day. Despite the physical hardship, Law chooses the overnight hours since that is when other community services are unavailable.

Law worked as a teacher from 1967 until his retirement in 1999. He was not content to idle away his retirement, so he found a new way to serve his community.

Law’s doctors have cautioned him against the physically demanding work, but he vows to continue serving the homeless of his community for the rest of his life.
